ASD Board of Directors

Families with ASD was founded March 4, 2005 by Julia and Gregory Smith. In February of 2006, Families with ASD became a 501 (c) 3, non-profit public charity and the ASD Board of Directors was formed. Over the past seven years, there have been many fine additions to our Board of Directors. All ASD Board Members have in some way been touched by autism. Most ASD Board Members have a child/adult with autism, or have autism themselves. Families with ASD's organization is made up of volunteers. We have NO paid staff. Most of our ASD Board members have full time jobs, as well as raising a family of their own. They volunteer what little free time they have to helping other families that are touched by autism. The ASD Board volunteers many thankless hours in helping run the Autism Family Resource Center, the free monthly meetings, the free holiday parties, and of course the free Autism Expo.

Janis Hastings. janis.hastings@gmail.com.

Janis Hastings is the mother of two wonderful children, one of which has autism. She was divorced just before her oldest son Lucas started the diagnosis process and raised him on her own, with the help of her parents, for the past 6 years. Dedicated to trying everything to help her son while still allowing him to be himself, she put herself through school, majoring in psychology so she could study autism and gain as much knowledge as she could about this disorder in order to help her son and others.

"Families with ASD was such a relief to find during the early days of Lucas' diagnosis. I was completely lost and felt so alone. Somehow I stumbled upon the first Autism Expo and as soon as Lucas and I walked through the doors of the event, I felt like I could finally exhale. The hundreds of people at that event ALL understood what we were going through. I immediately knew I wanted to be part of this amazing organization." - Janis Hastings
